Amazon.com What's a panda to do when his dreams of kung-fu awesomeness awake to the cold reality of noodle-making? Clumsy, overweight Po (Jack Black) dreams of becoming a kung fu master like China's revered "furious five," but instead seems destined to follow in the footsteps of his father and grandfather in the restaurant business. When great leader Oogway has a vision that the imprisoned kung fu warrior Tai Lung (Ian McShane) will soon escape, he declares it time to choose China's dragon warrior--one kung fu master deemed worthy of possessing the dragon's scroll and its secret to limitless power. Po and all the townspeople rush to the Jade Palace atop the highest mountain to witness the contest between Tigress (Angelina Jolie), Monkey (Jackie Chan), Mantis (Seth Rogan), Crane (David Cross) and Viper (Lucy Liu), but Po is locked outside the palace. After a miracle of sorts, Po lands inside the palace gates, where he is chosen as the dragon warrior and placed under the tutelage of the decidedly non-plussed master Shifu (Dustin Hoffman). An unconventional student to say the least, hilarity reigns as Shifu tries desperately to make Po into some semblance of a kung fu warrior. Can Po possibly fulfill his destiny as dragon warrior, or was Oogway's final decision a critical mistake? A film rich with hilarious moments, superior animation, and an important message about believing in oneself and the power that comes from within, Kung Fu Panda is great entertainment that will have the whole family laughing and begging for more. (Ages 3 and older) --Tami Horiuchi

Cute, children will love it January 5, 2009 Val (RI) Kung Fu Panda is a beautifully drawn movie that should appeal to a broad audience, but more so for younger children. While I enjoyed it, I think it's far too predictable and not as in-depth as other works by Dreamworks or Pixar. The plot is very simple and it doesn't pretend to be otherwise and kids will really get a kick out of the humour. I found myself laughing once or twice. The voice cast is really great especially Dustin Hoffman and Jack Black. Again, the animation is brilliant and certainly some of the finest I've seen in a long while. All in all, a simple but fun movie that the whole family will enjoy.
Better Than I thought! January 3, 2009 Damon Smith (USA) Kung Fu Panda was great. Good film for the whole family. I know there are some adults and teenagers that saw this movie and thought it was dumb, but thats your own fault for going to the movie in the first place. But then again, everyone has they're own opinions about movies. You either hate it or love it. But I loved it. The storyline was beautiful, special affects was well done, animation did extremely well. The actors for each animated character was perfect, Jack Black was a great choice for the voice of Po. If you didn't get the ending of this movie then oh well. Not everyone will understand. Easily one of the best movies of the year, next to The Dark Knight, Iron Man, and Wall-E to name a few of my other favorites.
for the grandkids January 2, 2009 Cecelia Segar I have this at home to entertain my grandchildren when they visit. It did the job very well
Kungu Fu Panda Dvd December 31, 2008 Benjamin J. Kramarczuk I love it. My wife loves it. My son loves it. My son is 8 and has seen it 7 times already. Very funny. Good cast, Jack Black rules!
It'll have everyone in your house kung fu fighting... December 30, 2008 Andrew Ellington (Mulholland Drive) Beautifully animated and rich with meaning, `Kung Fu Panda' is a surefire crowd pleaser and, well, a whole lot of fun. Pairing crisp imagery with some sublime voice over actors, `Kung Fu Panda' is as entertaining as the trailers would suggest and definitely deserves a spot as one of the best animated films of the year. The film tells the story of Po, a Panda who dreams of one day achieving Kung Fu awesomeness. The only problem is that he comes from a long line of noodle makers and his father just doesn't understand his desire to fight. When word comes that the evil kung fu master Tai Lung may escape imprisonment it is time to name the Dragon Warrior, a kung fu master who will receive the dragon scroll and all its endless power. The ceremony is held and it is believed that one of the furious five (Tigress, Monkey, Mantis, Crane and Viper) will be named the Dragon Warrior, but not all is as it seems and Po is named the warrior. Kung Fu master Shifu must train Po in order for him to defeat Tai Lung. The storyline is simple enough for children to grasp yet not too dulled down to the point where parents are bored stiff. The action keeps coming and the hilarity rarely lets up, and the message about believing in oneself is very strong and very enlightening, especially for children. I will give a word of caution, and beings that this is a film targeted towards the young ones I feel that this `warning' is valid and justified. The film is filled with kung fu violence. Now yes, I understand that a lot of cartoons have violence within them, and I normally am not one to balk at all, but there is a slight difference (is it really slight?) between stylized comical violence and intentional dark violence. Tai Lung is an evil soul and the fight scenes between him and the furious five or him and Shifu are quite violent and not comical (his fight with Po is rather funny). His escape from the prison is rather violent as well. The point being that, while a film like `The Incredibles' is violent, it is a comical kind of violence (the villain in that film is funny in itself) but the violence here is darker and may not be something you want your children imitating. Just a word of caution to parents, since being a parent I appreciate those words myself. Anyways, I really like this movie, and I think that most parents and children will too. Just know your kids first, that's all I say. It's entertaining and action packed and funny to boot. Jack Black and Dustin Hoffman make a great team here.
