Amazon.com Another satisfying collection of Celtic music, traditional and contemporary, that includes such modern-day folkies as Luka Bloom and, for the lack of a better term, New Age composer Loreena McKennitt. Fans who remember Planxty, the Bothy Band, Silly Wizard, and Capercaillie will embrace the performances here by individual members of those critically acclaimed and popular groups. Nightnoise singer Triona Ni Dhomhnaill, who was once described as one of the greatest voices of the century, sings a haunting piece called "Solus," while her brother and former Bothy Band fiddler Kevin Burke create an enchanting place on "On a Cold Winter's Day/Christmas Eve." In the end, Celtic Christmas really is all of a piece. Each work stands on its own, but taken together they form real feelings for the holiday that run from reverence to revelry and from joy to solitude. Moody and transcendent stuff. --Martin Keller

It touches the heart and stirs the emotions December 22, 2008 Baby Sprite (Spanish Town) One need not be Celt to enjoy this one. You'd need only an ear and a heart, perchance a hankie or tissue at the ready. Please enjoy fiddler Kevin Burke playing "On a Cold Winter's Day/Christmas Eve. It nearly has me in tears every time. ^..^~
Great non-standard Holiday music December 16, 2008 RowanGolightly (northern Oklahoma) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
If what you're looking for is the same Caroles or kitch-y Christmas songs rehashed, then this is not the CD for you. But if you are looking for Celtic music at its mystical, ethereal, lovely and evocative best, this is the right CD for you. With the likes of Altan, Loreena McKennitt, Luka Bloom, Liam O'Flynn and Carlos Nunez represented on this work, you cannot go wrong. I play this CD over and over, along with Celtic Christmas II.

I bought this cd thinking it would be nice to listen to for Christmas and it is nice but not what I thought it would be.
Simply sublime October 1, 2008 Rodney N. Queen (West Virginia) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
An excellent collection of Celtic music from many contemporary Celtic artists. There's not a bad track on the CD. If you're looking for "christmas-y" music in the vein of Mannheim Steamroller, look elsewhere. This is the real stuff, from solemn, to joyous, to reflective. I can't recommend it enough.
Great October 27, 2007 Derik99705 (North Pole, Alaska) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
The good thing about any of the Celtic Christmas CDs is that they don't feature any traditional, commercialized Christmas Carols. Therefore, you can play them as soon as Fall comes around and continue until the last snow melts.
