They Censored the Lyrics December 17, 2006 R. Schneblin (CA USA) 5 out of 19 found this review helpful
You know, you can have the most awesome choir in the world, yet it could rise as a foul odor to the Living God. The Mormons do not believe that Jesus Christ is God come in the flesh, so they eliminated the second verse and replaced it with brass alone. Here is what they left out... Christ by highest heav'n adored Christ the everlasting Lord! Late in time behold Him come Offspring of a Virgin's womb Veiled in flesh the Godhead see Hail the incarnate Deity Pleased as man with man to dwell Jesus, our Emmanuel Hark! The herald angels sing "Glory to the newborn King!" This CD will ring hollow for many. I suggest looking to other works. If they can't handle the entire song, they should have just left it out and sang "Here Comes Santa Claus" instead.
Take your breath away this Christmas! September 27, 2002 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
I love Christmas music and I love the Mormon Tabernacle Choir, so this CD is one of my favorites! Some of the songs are not the traditional carols I grew up with, but they are no less enchanting. This season when we celebrate the birth of the Savior, I highly recommend that you add this CD to your collection and get lost in the true spirit of Christmas.
Awesome Performance February 1, 2002 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
This is CD is one of THE BEST CDs I have ever listened when it comes to Chorlal Music. Two of my favorit arrangements are Jingle Bells and Lippai/Upon the Mountain. These two songs were arranged by Mr. Donald Ripplinger and it is always a pleasure to listen to them. The Mormon Tabernacle Choir set a pretty high standard of how sacred songs should be sung. Excellent Job! These songs can always be sung in church and they will for sure tickle the sensible strings of the human heart. If you are thinking about buying this CD...DO IT WITHOUT HESITATION. You will not be dissapointed.
Alternative Arrangements November 20, 2001 10 out of 11 found this review helpful
May be a interesting choice for those bored with traditional melodies and arrangements. Not a sing-a-long due to variations. Mix keeps your hand on the volume control.
The Mormon Tabernacle Choir does it again November 5, 2001 Nancy Moran (Baltimore, Maryland USA) The diction is perfect, the ensemble is perfect, the arrangements are perfect - this bargain disk is a far better Christmas value than Christmas albums costing three times as much.
