Bobby Horton is considered by many to be an expert in the field of historical music of the War Between the States, but, above and beyond that, he a very accomplished musician, who has turned out CD after CD of top notch period music. Bobby Horton has contributed to many project's, such as the following Ken Burns' specials: "The Civil War," "Baseball," "Thomas Jefferson," "Lewis and Clark," "Frank Lloyd Wright." He has also contributed to the Talonsoft computer games "Shiloh" and "Antietam." Using mostly period instruments, Bobby Horton has translated the tunes of yester-year into an exciting experience for all today. Ken Burns has said "I don't think I've met anyone quite like Bobby who has the ability to understand the soul of American music." Playing and most everything himself, this one man has laid before us an extensive selection of all the tunes we love and cherish, and many, many that are less known, but shouldn't be. This Christmas CD contains Christmas carols and seasonal tunes that were popular with America, North and South, during the War Between the States. 28 instrumental tunes in all, played in the style of 1860's America using mostly 19th century instruments to gibe it a "period feel." As a life-long lover of traditional folk-style, instrumental Christmas music performances, I have a fairly robust and well-worn collection that I look forward to hearing every Christmas season. When first I heard Bobby's entry, it went straight to the top of my favorites list and has remained there ever since! He is a suberb instrumentalist who plays every note of each masterfully arranged selection himself. If you'd like to feel like you're in old Fezziwig's shop or in nephew Fred's parlor in Dicken's London - look no further! A truly wonderful addition to anyone's seasonal music colletion.
