Album Description
Reissue of the 1962 classic Christmas with the Chipmunks! This long time favourite reached #84 in the charts. Alvin and the Chipmunks are a six-time Grammy Award-winning animated music group created by Ross Bagdasarian, Sr. in 1958. The group consists of three singing animated chipmunks: Alvin, the mischievous troublemaker, who quickly became the star of the group; Simon, the tall, bespectacled intellectual; and Theodore, the chubby, impressionable sweetheart. The trio is managed by their human father and confidant, David Seville. In reality, David Seville was Bagdasarian's stage name, and the Chipmunks themselves are named after the executives of their original record label, Liberty Records: Alvin Bennett (the president), Simon Waronker (the founder and owner), and Theodore Keep (the chief engineer).

 Just what I wanted January 7, 2009

I was very pleased when I received the Christmas Chipmunk CD, my daughter loves the chipmunks and this made an early Christmas present. The CD arrived very quickly and good as new. My daughter is still listening to it and keeps it by the computer, so not only is it great for the holidays she enjoys it all the time. Again, I was very please and if you are wondering about ordering something through AMAZON, you could not place your order with a better company.

This is the old chipmunks singing their classics along with a few others. Great for the kids and didnt make my ears bleed like I thought it would. Brings back some memories.

In 2007, Capitol/EMI FINALLY released on CD the closest-to-perfect configuration to date of the Chipmunks' two original Christmas albums. All twenty-four original songs (plus a bonus track) were included. The original cover art from both volumes was used even replicating the "foil" look of the original 1960s LPs. The remastering was fantastic and it never sounded better. I heard details I'd never noticed before in my 30-odd years of listening to these albums. The only real negative was that they resequenced the tracks but that was forgiveable.
That version is now out of print (after one year!) and has been replaced with a new, but definitely NOT improved edition for 2008. When I first saw it I assumed it was simply a re-issue of the 2007 version with revised cover art (which I actually really like -- modernizes it a bit while keeping the original 1960s character designs.) Upon closer inspection however, I noticed that this new version has DROPPED FOUR TRACKS (as well as the bonus track.)
Two of the missing tracks ("Jolly Old Saint Nicholas" and "Wonderful Day") are nice but not essential. Dave's jazzy version of "'Twas the Night Before Christmas" however was definitely a highlight and "Hang Up Your Stockin'" was one of the absolute best tracks on both albums. (The bonus track with Canned Heat was also dropped, but that's not a big deal.)
Thanks Capitol/EMI. You fixed it only to break it again. Such a shame.
If you can't track down the 2007 edition, then just wait and see if they get it right in 2009!

This was a great christmas cd that brought back the good old days when I used to watch the chipmunks. The voices are very clear and still make me laugh.
