 Great just for O Holy Night December 15, 2008

I bought this CD just for Mahalia's version of O Holy Night. I heard it when I was a child, and it became my favorite Christmas song. I finally found this. By far, Mahalia's version of O Holy Night is the best I have ever heard. Some of the other songs on here are good, but a little slow for my liking. She tends to sing very slow on all of her songs, including Go Tell It On The Mountain, which I remember as being a fast paced song. I do rate this 4 stars!

The Christmas Season 'begins' in our home when this CD is first played...and it never leaves the machine during the Season. Other CD's are put in, enjoyed, and removed, but Mahalia stays!! My family received an LP of this recording in 1953..!!.. and it has been the cornerstone of our Christmas Musical Selections since then! It is always the music played first on Christmas morning and during our warm, family gift opening time! I was SO delighted when I located this CD reproducing the exact songs etc. from that first LP. I have gifted it to family and friends at least 24 times...everyone has thanked me so much...so, treat yourself to it as well!!

Mahalia's voice is beautiful and the whole CD has expertly showcased her unique vocal style. I absolutely love this CD and will readily recommend it to all her fans.
