| Editorial Reviews:
Amazon.com In this beautifully chosen program of mostly a cappella arrangements, Robert Shaw and the Robert Shaw Chamber Singers deliver the Christmas story in tones of gentle and moving splendor. The carols and sacred settings recorded here are all of an intimate sort, and the rapturous, gently expressive realizations Shaw and his singers give them prove unfailingly appealing. Particularly moving is the newest work on the disc, a setting of "O magnum mysterium" by the American composer Morten Lauridsen. Franz Biebl's "Ave Maria" is another gem, as is the arrangement by Healy Willan of the French carol "What Is This Lovely Fragrance?" The offering includes a pair of chorales from Bach's Christmas Oratorio and two wonderful Christmas works by Benjamin Britten: "A Hymn to the Virgin" and A Ceremony of Carols, both well done, even if the sound of sopranos and altos (rather than boy trebles) in the latter takes some getting used to. --Ted Libbey

Inspiring! March 8, 2008 R. Madison (northeast US) You simply cannot go wrong with this wonderful collection from a disciplined and masterfully-led chorus. If you want to hear Christmas choral standards in all their glory, no disappointment here - beautiful men's chorus version (original) of Beibl's Ave Maria, and the treble voices also get play in the Ceremony of Carols.
So peaceful and relaxing. March 7, 2008 Darrel Drumm (Bunch, OK United States) I sang many of these songs in public high school in the late 60's. I enjoyed singing them then, and I enjoy listening to them now. (And, yes, I sing along although I've forgotten some of the lyrics and parts.) A cappella music is difficult to sing and the Robert Shaw Chamber Singers do an amazing job of it. Enjoy this music at anytime of the year as many of the songs aren't seasonal (such as Alleluia). Many others are seasonal but it doesn't make any difference, so just enjoy.
Robert Shaw Chorale March 1, 2008 Carolyn R. White I love this CD. I have enjoyed Robert Shaw chorale for 40 years. The quality is excellent and the price was great. I played it all during the holidays. I adore choir music.
Favorite Christmas CD January 8, 2008 Diane Knappe This has become my favorite Christmas CD. It has many less - common carols which is very refreshing to me. If you like music that is more towards the classical style, you'll love this CD.
What a Collection! December 9, 2007 IowaSoul One of the top CDs in my collection of Holiday music. Shaw delivers with an excellent program of fabulous music.
