Still a Decent Laugh June 25, 2008 Heather E. Tongue (Madison, WI USA) Nuncrackers is not quite as funny as the original Nunsense but still entertaining. I bought this primarily because this fall the theatre group I'm in is doing this show in the fall. This play/movie starts very slowly and it takes until Father Vergil does his cooking segment at the end of Act One and the dueling Sugar Plum fairy's to really start the show rolling. Some of my favorite moments come in the second act when the nuns perform "In the Convent" and "We Three Kings of Orient Are Us". Overall, entertaining but probably would be enjoyed more in real life.
Nuncrackers April 5, 2008 C. Randall (Michigan) bought this as xmas gift so don't know how the receipent likes it yet, but she's a big fan of Rue's so I'm sure she'll love it.
Disappointing December 29, 2007 Victoria Y. Guilfoil (Oklahoma) I got this video for my folks, since it sounded like something they'd like. I was disappointed to learn that they hadn't liked it at all; my mother was going to donate it to the hospital thrift shop for resale! Oh well...
Fun, but not as good as the original November 3, 2007 Thomas E. Hudson (West Linn, OR USA) Of course, what IS as good as its original? While some of the original cast are still present (especially Rue McClanahan and the wonderful Semina De Laurentis) many are not -- including Christina Toy Johnson and Terri White -- which is a pity as I had gotten to like the original cast and characters. This time out, the sisters have a cable access studio and have decided to make a Christmas special. The show is full of original songs by Dan Goggin, the creator of "Nunsense," is directed by David Stern who did the original so he knows how to work this material to its best advantage, and all the songs have the same feel as Goggin's original tunes although perhaps not quite as catchy overall. But with great titles such as "The Twelve Days Prior to Christmas" you can expect some funny stuff. Of all the incarnations of "Nunsense," I would place this a solid third behind "Nunsense," and "Nunsense 2: the Sequel" and miles above both the Vicki Lawrence "Nunsense Jamboree" and the oh-why-did-they-do-that "Nunsensations! The Vegas Review." If you have the first two editions of the Nunsense world, this is a good add and worth the time and cost. But stop here. Do not proceed beyond this point. If you have, come back to this one for a renewal of your Nunsense faith.
Nuncrackers May 6, 2007 C. Williams (Houston) I ordered this to add to my collection. It was ok. Not as good as Nunsense. Kind of slow. It has a few good songs.
