| Editorial Reviews:
Product Description This release is the second in Cala's Stokowski series, following on from the highly successful Philadelphia Rarities (CACD0501), and it offers an unique opportunity to hear a number of unissued recordings made by Stokowski which have come to light in the archives. In addition, the maestro's voice can be heard on the first track, cajoling and enjoying a joke with the audience. The repertoire is fascinating in its variety and scope, ranging from a performance of La Marseillaise (complete with audience participation), to the Pastoral Symphony from Messiah in Stokowski's inimitable arrangement. However, the most important piece on the disc is undoubtedly the maestro's extraordinary performance of Tchaikovsky's Romeo and Juliet Overture, which underscores how effective an interpreter Stokowski could be.
