The connection to Nestor and Small One February 14, 2008 Jacuss (N/A KS) There has been some controversy in specials that contain a Christmas donkey. The little Brown Burro, Nestor the long-eared Christmas donkey, and The Small One. The other two add up in this third film I recently discovered from online. I have been trying to re-write Nestor, and searched for inspiration. With the right contracts from Disney and Rankin/Bass and this open source (hoping) story I will re-write the stories together and make an awesome book or film.
Contents February 25, 2006 MacGuffin (New York City) "5 (sic) classic Christmas cartoons, featuring The Little Christmas Burro, Brightest Night, Christmas Night, Christmas Visitor and Toys Will Be Toys. A must-have DVD for any children's holiday collection!" I pulled this from Westlake's Web site because Amazon neglected to do so (for the record, there seems to be a rather enormous differential between list prices on the two sites and it doesn't favor your current host...). I noticed that it contained a few titles I didn't already own, so I bit the bullet (an Amazon third-party seller had it listed for a pittance). The set doesn't entirely consist of cartoons; "Brightest Night" is a rather hokey old short subject. Of the actual cartoons, "The Little Christmas Burro" is a variation on the "Small One" theme without its sinister, somewhat anti-Semitic overtones--it's narrated by the late, great Lorne ("The Voice of Doom") Greene and has some cute songs. "Toys Will Be Toys" is very sweet with a cameo appearance by Popeye and celebrity spoofs that include Carmen Miranda, Harpo Marx, and Bob Hope; I already have "Christmas Night" and "Christmas Visitor" on other disks. The quality isn't horrible (the titles are all various degrees of old), but there's no evidence of restoration, and there's no insert either. The menus are animated and are quite the nicest ones I've seen on collections of this type. This set doesn't contain the best of the classics (in fact, it really only contains two: "Christmas Night" and "Toys Will Be Toys," which, strictly speaking, has no mention of Christmas at all), but in spite of that, it's still worth picking up if you can do so for cheap.
