Product Description Delightful animation weaves a spell of magical enchantment as a young boys snowman comes to life and escorts him on a visit to the north pole. Studio: Sony Pictures Home Ent Release Date: 10/24/2006 Run time: 26 minutes
Amazon.com essential video This charming British animated short film (it's just 23 minutes long) is a 1982 production of London's Channel 4, based on the classic children's book by Raymond Briggs and crafted with a colored-pencils-on-paper look, like fluffy, hand-drawn illustrations. Small children should be entranced by the story of a small boy in rural England whose lovingly constructed snowman comes to life and takes him flying over the white-blanketed landscapes, in a beautiful rotoscoped (traced) sequence based on live-action flying footage. Part of the charm of the film is the gentle, everyday quality of its fantasy adventures: the snowman is invited in to try on clothes and play with the Christmas decorations, then plays host to the boy at a party in the woods, at which his snowy relatives do English country dances. This is one of the very few Christmas tapes on the market that really deserves to be a holiday perennial, a gentle fable of friendship and the power of imagination. --David Chute

Don't Be So Upset Over Bowie November 26, 2008 yO (Georgia United States) True That,,David Bowie IS a legend no doubt...BUT...The original intro(with Raymond Briggs walking in the crakling snow and speaking of His childhood is Truly Legendary).. People are gonna wish they had the original Briggs version because it is a Definite Collectors Item .. This film will always leave me Speachless...
The Snowman November 23, 2008 C. Kennelly (Phila PA) I love this movie so much. I used to watch it at my grandmothers house when i was a child although i am only 23 years old and i still love it. I have wanted to own this for a long time and I hope to one day share it with my children. The whole aspect of the movie is relaxing and exciting at the same time i think it lets your emmotions take hold because your not concentrating on language more so just reactions and activities that are going on. It's fantasy like and a wonderful story.
Wonderful - even if not the Bowie intro version November 14, 2008 Chris Hann (Alameda, CA United States) This is a beautiful and touching DVD. In terms of minutes for dollars it may not do so well, but to me it was well worth the money anyway. The video and audio quality are excellent and the story is magical. There's really nothing more to say. Amazon need to correct the description to make it clear that this is not the version introduced by David Bowie, which I would have preferred.
Speaks Volumes in Its Simplicity November 5, 2008 Buster49 (Utica, NY) Whenever I leave for home, after a family holiday, I always get a sense of bitter/sweet melancholy. "The Snowman" perfectly mirrors that feeling for me. The biggest reason for that, aside from the gentleness of the story as presented, is the incredible music. "The Snowman" is simple grandeur.
I enjoyed this when I was younger September 18, 2008 Karen I remember seeing this movie in 2nd grade and I enjoyed it because it related to christmas season which felt really nice. So I recently bought this after I remembered the movie, watched it, and turns out I can't enjoy it, except for the music. It is just too slow for me now. I will probably give this dvd away.
