Amazon.com Based on a fantasy novel by Terry Pratchett, The Hogfather is an extraordinary satire-adventure set in the mythical realm of Discworld, a kind of parallel-universe version of Earth. Discworld's alternative to Santa Claus is the Hogfather, who also chases around in a sled delivering gifts to children (on a Christmas-like night known as Hogwatch), but who looks like, well, a wild hog and is pulled through the skies not by reindeer but a bunch of grunting porkers with long, dangerous teeth. Just as the Hogfather is about to complete his annual mission to leave toys for kids under their Hogwatch trees, a specter makes a deal with a professional assassin to kill the jolly old fellow. The job is farmed out to a psychotic monster named Teatime (Marc Warren), who sets about trying to get to the Hogfather through, of all things, the Tooth Fairy. While danger stalks these immortal characters, Death (Ian Richardson) himself takes the Hogfather's place on his magical rounds, with comic consequences. Meanwhile, a governess named Susan (Michelle Dockery), possessor of a strange secret and awesome powers, determines that the Hogfather is in danger. She sets about trying to find him and discovers Teatime's plot, while a cluster of clumsy wizards (led by Joss Ackland) try to make sense of what has happened and what they can do about it. It's hard to explain the charm and wit of The Hogfather, which is full of quirky, ironic humor, except to say that it's easy to fall in love with this British television special and its dark delights. (Some a bit too dark for younger viewers.) The cast includes a very funny Tony Robinson of Black Adder. --Tom Keogh

Love it! July 26, 2008 T. Hodges I was first introduced to this movie from Netflix. They gave it to me as one they thought I might like. My wife love the Terry Pratchett books. I asked if she had heard of the it, so she handed me the copy she has. I told her there was a movie if Hogfather and so we rented it right away. We watched it and just loved it. So we had to buy it. The movie was aired on the BBC. Be aware it is 3 hours long and is a TV movie not a Theatrical released film. Very British humor, but so very clever. Terry Pratchett even makes an appearance. I wouldn't recommend it for the younger audience, because they might not get it. If you have a tween to teen, even if you're an adult I think you will enjoy it
The Hogfather DVD July 9, 2008 K. Pino (Montana) Pratchett fans rejoice! This DVD is wonderful. It is well done in that it follows the book. It is so fun to watch the actors bring the book to life. The special effects were amazing. I only wish they would do more DVD's.

I HAVE TO ADMIT WAS A DIFFERANT KIND OF CHRISTMAS MOVIE, AND I DO LOVE THEM. EVEN THOUGH I WON'T THROW THIS AWAY , I MAY NOT WATCH THIS FOR A YEAR OR SO. I CAN NOT SAY I WOULD RECOMEND ANYONE BUYING THIS MOVIE, UNLESS YOU ARE A COLLECTER OF CHRISTMAS MOVIES. I HAVE 6 BOOKS OF CHRISTMAS MOVIES AND THE MOVIE'S I LIKE BEST ARE IN BOOK 1 & 2 AND THIS WILL GO INTO BOOK 6. SORRY I DID NOT NLIKE THIS EVEN THOUGH THE REVIEW OF IT ON TV LOOK GOOD.
This move was an excellent surprise! June 21, 2008 Xavier Ryan 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Since I'm hooked on the Harry Potter movie stream, getting a chance to see another magical world was too hard to resist. The movie contains a bit of spoofing, double edged humor, and some very catchy moments. Watching, I got the vibe of watching the first BATMAN movie. Hogfather is not what you expect, and it is a bit dark. If you liked the "The Lord of the Rings" movies, you will definitely get into this one.
Perfect! June 20, 2008 Tropikal Pijin (Destin FL) Very true to the original book. Cast and acted perfectly. A great way to introduce Pratchett to those who have never read his work, but much more enjoyable if you've actually read the book first.
