Amazon.com Review Strikingly modern with a stainless-steel interior and front on a black cabinet, this multi-use unit functions not only as a microwave oven, but also as a browner and toasting oven with its 1000-watt top quartz grill. The microwave features 900 watts of power and a spacious .8-cubic-foot interior that holds a 12-3/8-inch glass turntable--perfect for dinner-sized plates. Two combination microwave/grill-cooking keys allow for cooking food throughout while browning the outside. The unit can be set to microwave at 30 percent while grilling at 70 percent, as well as microwaving at 55 percent while grilling at 45 percent. Touch-pad keys offer five power-level options and nine automatic menu functions, while an easy-to-read digital display and a 60-minute digital rotary timer provide further convenience. A metal wire grilling rack is included. The three-in-one appliance measures 20 by 13-13/16 by 17-1/2 inches and carries a one-year limited warranty on parts and labor. --Catie Unger

NOT A HOME RUN BUT NOT TOO SHABBY EITHER January 3, 2009 Robert M. Zumatto (NEW YORK, NY) I RECEIVED THIS UNIT AS A GIFT PROBABLY BACK IN 2004. I REALLY DIDN'T NEED A NEW MICROWAVE OVEN AS I'D RECEIVED A PERFECTLY GOOD ONE, IN THE RIGHT SIZE (SMALL), AS A GIFT 2 YEARS EARLIER! HOWEVER THE GIFT GIVER WAS SO THRILLED TO GIVE IT TO ME, I HAD TO TAKE IT. FIRST PROBLEM, THIS UNIT IS HUGE. MY SMALL GE SAT ON A SMALL SHELF ABOVE 1 OF THE 2 SMALL COUNTERTOPS IN MY SMALL NYC APT. THIS ONE WAS WAY TOO BIG AND HEAVY FOR THAT SHELF, SO INSTEAD, IT ENDED UP TAKING UP ABOUT 40% OF MY COUNTER SPACE. AS A MICROWAVE, THIS UNIT FUNCTIONS VERY WELL, ALTHOUGH I WOULD'VE LIKED MORE OPTIONS WITH THE POWER SETTING (5 VS. 10 ON MY GE). THE CONTROLS ARE VERY CONFUSING, AT FIRST. THE AUTO MENU COOKING (A1 FOR BEVERAGES/SOUP ALL THE WAY UP TO A9 FOR SAUSAGES!(?) HOWEVER, I ALMOST NEVER USE THESE FUNCTIONS, PREFERRING TO WING IT MOST OF THE TIME. EVEN THE DEFROST SETTINGS ARE UNNECESSARY...JUST SET IT TO 20% POWER, AND KEEP AN EYE ON IT EVERY FEW MINUTES. NO BIG INCONVENIENCE THERE. SEVERAL REVIEWERS MENTIONED THAT THIS COULD BE USED AS A TOASTER? I HAVE TO SAY, THAT NO WHERE IN THE MANUAL DOES IT MENTION THAT THIS CAN TOAST BREAD. IT IS not A TOASTER. IT does HAVE A GRILL ELEMENT WHICH CAN BE USED EITHER ALONE OR IN COMBO MODE USING BOTH MICROWAVE AND GRILLING IN SUCCESSION, NOT AT THE SAME TIME. I'M SURE IN GRILL MODE IT WOULD EVENTUALLY BROWN A PIECE OF BREAD, BUT ONLY ONE SIDE OF IT. I GUESS IF YOU ONLY HAVE ROOM FOR 1 APPLIANCE, THIS COULD WORK IN A PINCH. LET'S FACE IT...MICROWAVE OVENS CANT REALLY COOK MEAT WELL. THE ADDITION OF THE GRILL UNIT HELPS, BUT ALL IT DOES IS BROWN THE GUMMY/RUBBERY CHICKEN IT TURNS OUT. LIKE MOST PEOPLE, I USE THIS TO REHEAT LEFTOVERS, OR MAKE FROZEN VEGETABLES (AND FRESH ONES TOO). FOR THIS IT'S FINE. NOW, IF YOU USE THE GRILLING FEATURE ALONE, THE RESULTS CAN BE VERY GOOD, ALBEIT SLOW. THE GRILL ELEMENT DOES NOT COVER THE ENTIRE CEILING OF THE UNIT, SO BASICALLY, WHATEVER YOU'RE COOKING ROTATES UNDER THE GRILL ELEMENT FOR 2 SECONDS AT A TIME. CHICKEN PART ACUTALLY COME OUT REALLY REALLY GOOD THIS WAY...IT'S SLOW, BUT HE RESULT IS JUICY CHICKEN, PEFERCTLY COOKED AND BROWNED ENOUGH. ALL IN ALL, I WOULD NOT HAVE CHOSEN TO PURCHASE THIS, BUT AS A GIFT, I'VE GROWN TO LIKE IT, AND EVEN THOUGH IT'S BIG, I APPRECIATE THE EXTRA INTERIOR ROOM. I HAVE HAD NO PROBLEMS WITH IT TO DATE.
Doesn't work! December 16, 2008 R. Wymore (Kansas City, MO) We got this as a gift. It worked just under one year. We called Sanyo for some customer service but their "service" was a joke. I asked if maybe there was a setting we accidentally triggered or a reason it wasn't heating, if they knew anything - nope! They didn't care because our "warranty" was no good anymore (even though it stopped working in under a year). The fan and light still work, so it looks like it's working but never heats anything. It is a piece of junk. We are now going to buy a microwave but we will never buy or keep anything from Sanyo again!
Does not work December 2, 2008 busabusa (CT, USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Oven brand new out of the box didn't work. Not sure Sanyo even tests these before shipping them. Upon closing the door, the oven would run continuously but not actually microwave; just the fan and light. Avoid.
JUNK! June 24, 2008 Amber (Maryland) I purchased this in April of 2007 from Best Buy for 89.99 and in June of 2008 it went up. Saved the box but nobody will give me a refund since it has been just over a year. The only thing I liked about it was the way it looked. Do not buy this junk! Spend a little more money and get a better microwave that will last a long time.
Nice looking small microwave at a good price April 6, 2008 J. Landman (Charlotte, NC United States) I purchased mainly because I liked the looks of this microwave and it was a really good price. I also like the toast feature, although I've actually not even used it yet. I've been pleased so far, but I would warn anyone purchasing to check the back when it arrives. Mine had a large dent and I had to return it. Amazon was very accomodating, sending a new unit even before my return was processed. That was great, and the new one is fine. I'm not sure if the dent occurred in shipping -- could have -- although the box didn't really show any signs. It was a little odd. Alls is fine, however, with my new unit.
