Amazon.com Review It began with The Christmas Box, a humble story about a caretaker and his family who befriend a lonely widow at Christmas time. In The Christmas Box Miracle, author Richard Paul Evans offers the back story, showing us how his self- published book became a runaway bestseller. We first meet the author as a young boy, learning about the family and faith that led him to become such as reliable and unpretentious narrator. As it turns out, Evans grew up in a Mormon household amongst a band of taunting brothers and a few childhood ghosts. His mother lost a stillborn daughter when Evans was a toddler. She also suffered from severe depression and suicidal tendencies. This backdrop helps us understand Evans's dedication to bring healing and hope to life. More than a publishing success story, The Christmas Box Miracle speaks about Evans's ability to change readers' lives and foster miracle after miracle. Fans of Evans already know to pull out their handkerchiefs. --Gail Hudson
Product Description
In 1994, Richard Paul Evans, then an unknown writer, self-published a short book entitled The Christmas Box. That book went on to become an international bestseller, selling more than seven million copies and touching the lives of many more people along the way. The Christmas Box Miracle is the story behind the book that has become a Christmas classic: how a man writes and publishes a book which helps grieving people to heal and lost souls to find their way home. It is Evans's story: his own spiritual journey and stories of people he encountered along the way -- miraculous stories of healing and divinity that often defy explanation. In sharing the story behind The Christmas Box, Richard Paul Evans has given us a story of miracles, hope and healing for all seasons.

Most Beautifully Rendered Journey To Help Bereaved. December 3, 2008 Betty Burks (Nashville, TN) 'The Christmas Box' appeared to be a phenomenal success. Little did we know the travails and mis-treatment the author had to endure to "share" his story with the world. Like Mark, he records things in his daily Journal, for himself, which came in handy when he had the inspiration to share with his devoted fans later. The "little book" which touched so many lives was originally published as a gift to members of his family; first edition was twenty copies as Christmas gifts. This account of what happened later explain the phenomenal happenings as the book circulated, the strain on the author and finally satisfaction and recognition. He spent his first nine years in Arcadia, California, which he calls an "Eden" where peacocks roamed freely, which reminded me of those in Sewanee, Tennessee, I encountered at a Church Women United retreat on the hillside near Chattanooga as a young mother. There are moments of our lives which are burned in the most precise detail into the flesh of our memories. Last year, I even bought and wore two skirts made to look like peacock feathers, different colors, and later came home from Cherokee, NC, with three of the actual feathers which I shared with a friend. We wonder why some succeed and others do not. It takes will power to triumph in dark tiimes, when many fall with despair. This was a life-changing experience as he searched for the reasons he had feelings of inadequacy and loneliness. There are people who reach beyond themselves and stepped in at the right time and place to be there when needed. Thus, Mark became my intellectual hero. Like the author of this unmistakable story based on his sister Sue's death who became the angel on whom the cemetery marker was inspired (she was never buried, how can that be possible?), Mark learned patience and empathy. So many people have no place to go to mourn their dead children. This book and later the angel sculpture gave them the outlet they needed. His "little book's" healing influence gave them the chance to come to terms with the child's unexpected death. It is the healing process for those who lost children. The story is very comforting to those wrapped up in mourning. Like Bernadette, the angel was a miracle. "Ask and it shall be given." His grandfather was a seer who predicted this success and taught him to walk with courage and faith. Karen Davis, a devout Christian, believed in this Biblical prediction, as did the author who anticipated rejection and it still came as a surprise that he had to go through such difficulties with book stores. Karen and her two darling girls prayed for material things, to my dismay, and received their wishes -- even a piano. At times, felt that if you are not willing to fight, who will? It is the darkest skies where stars are best seen. He refused to give up his quest or all would be lost. There are ways besides death to lose a child. "Perhaps coincidence is just God choosing to remain anonymous."

I am a big fan of the Christmas Box books, but when I saw this book I thought UHHHHHH I guess he needs even more money. RPE must have realized that he was a flash in the pan, and was desprate to hang on to his falling fame. This book does have its moments though, but it sounds like a broken record. They were giving this book away.. a free copy with every $10 purchase. I wish RPE would get over himself he's no Charles Dickens!!!
excellent book March 20, 2007 Diana Locke (jacksonville florida) this book is really eye opening as to faith and where it can lead you if you let it.
