5 out of 5 stars Not Just Another Little Christmas Book   December 30, 2008
Frank Creed (Lafayette, Indiana, USA)

With shopping, cooking, recitals, and services all piled on top of our daily chores and tasks, how many of us lose sight of what's meaningful, for days at a time, every Christmas? What if you could have one tool to keep that from happening?
A Scrapbook of Christmas Firsts is only ten chapters long, each themed with a verse of the Christmas story from Matthew and Luke. Chapters are then stuffed with categorized features like Family Snapshot, Gingerbread Genealogy, Vintage Poetry and Lyrics, Peppermints for Little Ones, Stocking Stuffer Tradition, Gift for You, Evergreen Thumb, A Few of Our Favorite Things, Trivia Treasures, Bethlehem Star, Morning Star Light, and Word Quilter's Wisdom.
Every reader will be inspired--in each chapter, learn things, enjoy memories, and consider new family traditions. Consider new ways to help the needy with their holiday. I'm not a guy who will be trying out the new recipes, but I hope to be eating them.
A Scrapbook of Christmas Firsts should be as much a part of your holiday as the family Christmas-fying their home with wreaths and decorations. If ever there was a book printed for seasonal bathroom reading, this is it; pack it away in that first box you open every year, and then annually, drop it in the reading basket. Young, old, and everyone between will find something memorable in this little Christmas book.

5 out of 5 stars A lovely little book   December 29, 2008
Barbara Warren
When I first saw this book I thought it would be something I would read in a few minutes. Instead I found myself lingering over the stories, enjoying the little known Christmas facts, and promising myself that I would try all the recipes. And yes, there are recipes. Truly a bonus. The pages are filled with personal stories that will touch your heart, and there are interesting facts that will have you thinking, "I never knew that." I've always loved the song about chestnuts roasting on an open fire, but I didn't know until I read this book that Mel Torme, who originally sang it, also wrote the song in forty minutes during a 1945 summer heat wave. I'll remember that every time I hear the song from now on.
This is a great book for any time of the year, and a perfect addition to any bookshelf.

5 out of 5 stars What a Christmas treasure!   December 21, 2008
Janna R. Ryan (Nebraska)
It is a compilation project by 6 different women -

Trish Berg
Terra Hangen
Cathy Messecar
Karen Robbins
Brenda Nixon
Leslie Wilson

What makes this book so charming you might ask? It is full of sweet stories, recipes, trivia, lyrics, poetry, Bible verses and even questions that all 6 ladies answer from their individual viewpoint and all of these things relate to Christmas. Its a beautiful book that would make a lovely present or display nicely where guests can flip through it.

I loved the story of the grade school girl selling Christmas cards door-to-door after her daddy died and my eyes welled up at Trish's story of her Little Angel Girl Ornament. There are recipes I want to try and thoughts that make me think. Overall this is a beautiful book that would be treasured by anyone who loves Christmas.

This is a beautiful book loaded with useful and fun information and graced with touching true stories about firsts at Christmas time. From Karen Robbins's story about the meaningful first Christmas spent with her adopted children to Brenda Nixon's story about her father's first Christmas as a high school graduate (at age 80), this book will warm your heart. Plus you'll find recipes, craft projects, gardening tips (did you know you could grow myrrh?) and more. While this is a great gift to give, don't forget to get a copy for yourself.

5 out of 5 stars To be enjoyed again and again   November 24, 2008

This book is absolutely beautiful. I was so impressed from the moment I picked it up. I think all who read it will be too.

It is so easy to get bogged down with to-do lists, appointments, and stress over creating the perfect Christmas for our loved ones that we end up not enjoying a moment of it ourselves. A Scrapbook of Christmas Firsts is a collection of stories, memories, recipes, tidbits, and fresh ideas you can incorporate into your own Christmas celebration.

I tried to decide on my favorite thing about the book to include in this review, but it was impossible. Readers will love the nostalgia and memories stirred by reading the book curled up in front of the fire or just by opening at random and reading a few passages while waiting to pick the kids up from play practice. However readers enjoy this book, it is sure to become a favorite that will be picked up again and again, year after year.
