4 out of 5 stars I usually hate anthologies, but this one was ok.   December 1, 2008
Virginia Susannah (Alabama, USA)
I usually hate anthologies because they usually lack good plots. This one was better than most I've read, but it still wasn't a five star read. I liked Nalini Singh's story the most. Erin McCarthy's was ok. The best thing in it was the hero. I usually like Linda Winstead Jones, but I found myself skimming through her story. I'm not a huge Lora Leigh fan because I think that most of the time in her books, I feel like I'm reading a script for a porno movie. And that is just not my thing. This one was okay, but still how anyone can like the whole "barb" aspect of her Breed series is beyond me. What is so romantic about that? Getting off my soap box now, overall the book was a four star read.

5 out of 5 stars Phenomenal!   November 24, 2008

Christmas is a time of magic and joy and four spectacular authors have a special treat for readers this year with THE MAGICAL CHRISTMAS CAT.

Nalini Singh kicks off this anthology with "Stroke of Enticement". Zach Quinn, a DarkRiver soldier, is instantly attracted to Annie Kildaire. Annie is used to working with changelings in her role as teacher, but how will she handle Zach's determined pursuit of her?

Nalini Singh is without a doubt one of the best paranormal romance writers in print today. Her Psy-Changeling series is a deeply emotional, multilayered world and "Stroke of Enticement" offers up a tiny taste of it. Nalini Singh not only writes a beautifully moving romance with Annie and Zach's story, but she also tackles the tough issue of prejudice. Ms. Singh's sensitivity at addressing prejudice is to be commended, particularly as she weaves it into the storyline smoothly and effectively. Nalini Singh is one of my favorite authors and "Stroke of Enticement" is another stellar example of why her books are must-reads!

Erin McCarthy's "Christmas Bree" is connected to her story in AN ENCHANTED SEASON. Bree Murphy is horrified when her sister predicts that her true love will arrive wearing a pink shirt. There's just no way such a man would appeal to Bree! And then Ian Carrington shows up at her door....

Bree is the sister I wanted to read about after finishing "Charlotte's Web", so I am glad to see she has her own story. Erin McCarthy does not disappoint as the repartee between these two diametrically different characters is nothing short of hilarious! However, I have to say that Akasha the cat steals the show. In fact, there is one scene involving Ian, Bree, and Akasha that still makes me laugh out loud! Kudos to Erin McCarthy for infusing humor into a sexy paranormal story.

It all starts with a Secret Santa gift in "Sweet Dreams" by Linda Winstead Jones. Ruby Kincaid receives a cat figurine from a mysterious secret admirer. Little does she realize the danger she is in from dark supernatural forces. Zane Benedict knows about the menacing evil that now hopes to prey on Ruby, but is there any way to save her?

"Sweet Dreams" is the surprise hit of THE MAGICAL CHRISTMAS CAT. I have read and enjoyed other stories by Linda Winstead Jones but "Sweet Dreams" is exactly what I hope to see more of in paranormal romances. The depth and complexity of the threat stalking Ruby is well explained and the eerie atmosphere created by Linda Winstead Jones only serves to enhance this. "Sweet Dreams" offers a complexity not often found in short stories and is a true gem, even in an anthology as good as THE MAGICAL CHRISTMAS CAT.

Lora Leigh concludes this anthology with "Christmas Heat". Haley McQuire doesn't like parties and this one has turned into a sheer disaster. She witnesses a meeting in which the very safety of the Breeds is at stake and she turns to enforcer Noble Chavin for help. Can Noble keep her safe, even as the mating heat turns his thoughts to more pleasurable things?

"Christmas Heat" is part of Lora Leigh's Breeds series but easily stands on its own merits. Haley is a likable heroine, as she shows a feisty nature under her seemingly sedate librarian exterior. Her consideration and care for her friends' well being when her own is at stake is endearing. Noble is as intense as one would expect from any of the Alpha males in this series, but it's hard not to fall in love with him as he begins to see the joy of Christmas. "Christmas Heat" is another hit from Lora Leigh!

THE MAGICAL CHRISTMAS CAT is a phenomenal Christmas anthology as all four authors deliver top-notch stories. The cat theme is cleverly used in different ways as each author offers her own unique take on the holiday season. THE MAGICAL CHRISTMAS CAT is one of those rare anthologies in which each story is fantastic. Highly recommended!

3 out of 5 stars Nice variety.   November 17, 2008

This book gave me a chance to sample a few author that I had been wanting to try. I love the ever inventive and steamy Lora Leigh, but now I am looking forward to trying Erin McCarthy's series.

I have read a couple of the books in this anthology but Lora Leigh's breed series is worth the price of admission. Although this short story was about a less known breed it had all the fun and excitement of her other books. Nalini Singh's short story about the world of the Psy was very interesting and I will definitely check out the other books in the series.

4 out of 5 stars Good read   November 7, 2008

I ordered this book solely because I am addicted to Nalini Singh's stories and I can't wait until next year. After finishing the book I have to say that I might as well pick up Lora Leighs Breed stories.
Nalini Singh's "Stroke of Enticement" is fantastic. Usually her characters have obstacles after obstacles to overcome, since this is a short story, there is almost instant gratification of Zach's and Annie's romance.
"Christmas Bree" however did not really excite me, for some reason the story line was just to quick and unfinished.
"Sweet Dreams" was a very interesting new read for me, since it portrays **SPOILER** the cat as the evil this time **SPOILER**. Also, very mellow in comparison to the other yummy stories.
My second favorite story was definitely "Christmas Heat". Noble's and Haley's story is just amazing (ly hot)and as I said before, Lora Leigh is on my book list now.
