Amazon.com Review Loving piggy pals Toot and Puddle are back--well, actually, Toot isn't back yet. As in Holly Hobbie's earlier Toot and Puddle, Toot has the travel bug while Puddle contentedly tends the home fires. In his postcard from Scotland, Toot promises to be home for Christmas. But ice storms and delayed flights threaten to spoil the holiday plans... until an unexpected fellow traveler saves the day. Hobbie's marvelous illustrations are filled with telling details and subtle wit: Toot caroling his heart out in an Edinburgh blizzard with a few sheep buddies; Puddle curled up in an armchair with crayons and holiday cards (signed with a blank space before "and Puddle," in anticipation of Toot's signature). The devotion the pigs share for each other is sweet, never sickly, and young readers with best friends will know exactly how they feel, being apart at a most important time. Several more Toot and Puddle titles will also enchant, including A Present for Toot and You Are My Sunshine. (Ages 3 to 7) --Emilie Coulter
Product Description Toot goes to a family reunion in Scotland, promising Puddle that he'll be back in Woodcock Pocket in time for Christmas. But a huge snowstorm strands him far away from home on Christmas Eve! As Puddle waits anxiously for his friend, another holiday traveler helps Toot find his way to Woodcock Pocket, just in time.

Great friendship-togetherness Christmas story December 16, 2008 Margaret A. Chind (Atlanta, GA USA)
This is the cutest Children's Christmas book that I have ever read! Having family and friends together is important to everyone, especially friends Toot & Puddle. With one visiting a great-great-aunt in Edinburgh and the other home in Boston, only a miracle can bring them together in time for Christmas. This is the perfect snuggle read for anytime. The pictures and story will make you smile and be full of delight. I highly recommend it!
Instant Favorite - Sure to Be Our Christmas Eve Bedtime Book December 14, 2008 Jennifer Juday (Austin, TX USA) TOOT AND PUDDLE I'LL BE HOME FOR CHRISTMAS is the first book in this series that we have read, and it has been an instant family favorite. Toot & Puddle are good friends and delightfully different characters. Holly Hobbie's watercolor paintings are really spectacular. She does a great job of creating very expressive characters. She also does gorgeous work creating the domestic and nature scenes that are the backdrop for Toot and Puddle's conversations. I got an artists friend to look at the book (I was so excited about discovering it), and she agreed that the two paintings of Toot and Puddle outside in moonlit snow are brilliant. The thing I most love about this book is the emphasis on holidauys as a time we spend with the people we love. There is no big deal made about getting and giving presents. The only present we talk about is the lucky nut that Toot is given by his Great-Great-Aunt. Toot brings it home from Scotland and hangs it on the tree he shares with Puddle and Tulip. There is also no big deal made about Santa Claus. You may think you spot him, but you can't say for sure. Delightful! We have read this book three or four times a day for two weeks, and it looks as if it is going to take us through to Christmas Eve. The book ends by saying "when they wake it will be Christmas," and I fully expect that will be the last line of the last sleepytime book we read on Christmas Eve this year.
Toot & Puddle: I'll Be Home For Christmas December 13, 2008 Enchanting Reviews TOOT & PUDDLE: I'LL BE HOME FOR CHRISTMAS HOLLY HOBBIE Children's (Ages 4-8) Little, Brown Rating: 4.5 Enchantments TOOT & PUDDLE: I'LL BE HOME FOR CHRISTMAS is a perfect holiday read, featuring the beloved characters of Toot and Puddle. This time, when Toot goes away for a family reunion in Scotland, he sends Puddle a postcard promising to be home in time for Christmas. But when Toot reaches Boston, a sudden snowstorm may keep him from getting home for the holidays. Will Puddle's lucky nut, a gift from Great-Great-Aunt Peg be the key to getting home? Cute charming illustrations accompany this fun story as Toot struggles to get home in time, and with time running out, and the to-do list too big, Puddles and Tulip are forced to start the decorating without their friend. I especially loved the pictures of Tulip and Puddle's Christmas preparations and Toot struggling to reach home in time for the holidays. This is one book I'll be adding to the holiday stack for years to come. Holly Hobbie has worked as an artist for more than thirty years and is the author of seven previous and highly acclaimed Toot & Puddle picture books, as well as an illustrated memoir, The Art of Holly Hobbie. The mother of grown children, she lives with her husband in Conway, Massachusetts. Lisa Enchanting Reviews November 2008
Poor Flow, Not Great for Bedtime November 20, 2008 Peter M. Brown (Gambrills, MD United States) I picked this book up locally today, and read it to my son tonight. I typically read to my son at bed time. He's almost 3 and loves Toot & Puddle. However, I found this book enjoyable (the illustrations are nice and the concept is good), but difficult for him to follow. The transition from one character to another is fine for an adult to follow, but I doubt my son picked up on the bounce right away. I personally felt that the two parts of the story had to have more depth to make the flow work. He did pick out who rescued Toot in the sleigh, though :) In addition, kids of this age aren't great at filling out backstory. The story starts off with a postcard and a gift from Toot's great great aunt. The reader will have to explain to young children that Toot is across the ocean, far away from Puddle and will have to fly home to get there in time for Christmas. This is one of the few books I've seen that requires a read-through before you read it to your child. In addition, while not all stories make great bedtime stories, this one is particularly poor in that area. It lacks the flow and cadence that would make it for appropriate bedtime reading. If it did not have Toot and Puddle in it, I doubt it would have held his interest.
Beautiful storyline from a great seller. August 26, 2008 Frost Flower Fairy (2009...) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
