Product Description

If You Could Change Your Life by Reversing Your Biggest Regrets, Sorrows and Mistakes...Would You?

#1 New York Times bestselling author and renowned radio and television host Glenn Beck delivers an instant holiday classic about boyhood memories, wrenching life lessons, and the true meaning of the gifts we give to one another in love.

We weren't wealthy, we weren't poor -- we just were. We never wanted for anything, except maybe more time together....

When Eddie was twelve years old, all he wanted for Christmas was a bike. Although his life had gotten harder -- and money tighter -- since his father died and the family bakery closed...Eddie dreamed that somehow his mother would find a way to have his dream bike gleaming beside their modest Christmas tree that magical morning.

What he got from her instead was a sweater. "A stupid, handmade, ugly sweater" that young Eddie left in a crumpled ball in the corner of his room.

Scarred deeply by the realization that kids don't always get what they want, and too young to understand that he already owned life's most valuable treasures, that Christmas morning was the beginning of Eddie's dark and painful journey on the road to manhood. It will take wrestling with himself, his faith, and his family -- and the guidance of a mysterious neighbor named Russell -- to help Eddie find his path through the storm clouds of life and finally see the real significance of that simple gift his mother had crafted by hand with love in her heart.

Based on a deeply personal true story, The Christmas Sweater is a warm and poignant tale of family, faith and forgiveness that offers us a glimpse of our own lives -- while also making us question if we really know what's most important in them.

5 out of 5 stars A gift that keeps giving and you have to give.   December 1, 2008

This is a timeless story that we have all lived at one point in our lives and also know people who have lived in the storm and are needing help finding their way out. The simplicity of the story, makes the message hit you square between your eyes. Life is full of second chances and miracles; you just need to know when they're staring you in the face.

This book is a quick read and the impression will last a lifetime. I am giving the book to my entire family for Christmas.

If you're the type of reader who can't get enough of tried and true holiday - oh, excuse me - Christmas! - stories, this one's for you. Was "It's A Wonderful Life" too dark for your taste? Was Charlie Brown's sad little tree too heartbreaking? Then read this! It's like candy-cane flavored cotton candy! It's so lightweight and delicious, it just dissolves away leaving you with a precious and short-lived sugar rush. For those skeptics out there, remember: even the most shopworn cliche looks fabulous wrapped in festive Christmas paper!

Like many others, I was riveted to this book and read it cover to cover almost nonstop. I must admit that keeping the book on the bestseller list in front of Stephen King was part of my motivation, but I definitely have no regrets.

4 out of 5 stars The Christmas Sweat-er   December 1, 2008

Sometimes you have to go some place to get someplace. When this occurs in the literary world, you can only hope that the path taken is more direct than the long and winding road that Glenn Beck takes his readers on in "The Christmas Sweater."

Overall, the story is engaging, although there is clearly a sense of deja vu as you turn the easy-to-read pages. Unfortunately, there are far too many pages to turn before you get to the timeless lessons of the story - personal accountability and responsibility, facing challenges, not fleeing from them, atonement and redemption, and (grand)parental love. My fear, however, is that too many readers will not have the stamina to plow through the pages to get to get the meaning of the sweater.

I have to admit that I found the ending a bit weird, in a Bobby Ewing redux way. Still, the messages are important, assuming you stay on Beck's circuitous route long enough to find them.

An excellent book for a parent to read first, then give to their children. The ensuing discussion would be far more significant than the book itself.

5 out of 5 stars Glenn has a super soft side!   December 1, 2008

I got this book Friday, started a little Saturday and finished up on Sunday. Somewhere around the third chapter, I couldn't put it down. As a mom of 5, I found myself relating to the mother more so than Eddie, and at times this was almost difficult to read. I cried more than laughed, which is not what I expected from a Glenn Beck book. I've noticed some reviews from people that have obviously not read the book - the lefties who have nothing better to do, with the campaign being over and all.
