Product Description
Lizzie McKettrick is coming home for Christmas. And Indian Rock's new schoolteacher has a surprise in store for her family—a special young man, Whitley Carson. He might seem a little too interested in the McKettrick money, but Lizzie's certain Whitley cares for her deep down.

Yet fate has a surprise of its own for Lizzie: Dr. Morgan Shane. When their homebound train is halted by a massive avalanche, injuring and stranding its passengers, the handsome doctor takes charge—with Lizzie by his side.

Despite their growing bond, Lizzie and Morgan know time is running out. With another avalanche looming and the train's food supply dwindling, it's going to be a bleak Christmas Eve. But with faith, hard work and a little extra help from a most unexpected source, they just might find their way home to celebrate a McKettrick family Christmas after all.…

3 out of 5 stars A McKettrick Christmas   December 1, 2008

I liked this book, but it wasn't one of Linda Lael Miller's greats. It was fun to revisit the historical McKettrick family, but unfortunately the story didn't included snips of everyone. This book stars Lizzy. Holt's daughter, who's returning from college in San Francisco to Indian Rock. She plans to be the new Schoolmarm, she brings with her, her beau Whitney Carson to meet her family and share the holidays. Dr. Morgan Shane is on his way to Indian Rock at the request of Lizzy's Uncle Jeb to be the towns new doctor. Little do they anyone realize that an unexpected catastrophe is waiting around the next bend that will redefine everyone's future. While I admired Lizzy's character, she was either whinning about Whitney, who was a whimp, or bossing everyone around and doing things caused trouble and endanger the others. All in the spirit of being helpful. Once Lizzy sees Dr Shane she starts find fault with everything about Whitney and fantizies about how attracted she is to Morgan.

While I thought this book to be written well, and it's always a pleasure to revisit one of my family favorites again, I would like to glimpsed a bit more of what the family has been doing and how they've continued to grow. For example, why was Lorelei at the hotel when it's Emmeline and her mother who own it. And, what happened to her and the sherrif? With the amazing strength and passion of all the McKettrick women why weren't they all at the hotel when Lizzy and the train passengers returned. All-in-all, it is a touching story about perseverance, determination, and a little Christmas miracle.

I loved this book. It was wonderful to go back to Indian Rock and the McKettricks ranch. I've enjoyed all the McKettricks books but the historical ones are my favorite. Hope LLM keeps bringing us stories from the McKettricks. I'll have to say the first one was my favorite though.
This is special because of the Christmas feel to it and the miracle of Christmas that we all enjoy hearing about.

Ms. Miller revisits the historical McKettrick family with her latest novel. This book stars Lizzy Holt's daughter who is returning from San Francisco to Indian Rock to be the new Schoolmarm, she brings with her, her beau Whitney Carson to meet her family and share the holidays. Dr. Morgan Shane is on his way to Indian Rock at the request of LIzzy's Uncle to be the town doctor. Little do they know that an unexpected catastrophe is waiting literally around the next bend on the railroad tracks that will redefine every one's future.
This book is wonderfully written and it's always fun to revisit one of my favorite families The McKettrick's and find out what they're all up to. It's a touching story about perseverance, bravery and a little Christmas miracle.
