From city girl to cow girl November 19, 2008 K. Bye (Seattle/Indiana/Florida) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
A month before Andrea Jacobs is going to visit someone special she wants to be trained on how to ride a horse like a cowboy. She calls from New York City to the Lazy L Dude & Cattle Ranch to request private riding instructions and is willing to pay an enormous amount of money to do so. Her riding instructor is none other than Hank Ledbetter part owner of the ranch and confirmed bachelor. Spoilers & Review-Read Ahead ONLY if you don't mind knowing more about the book story! I normally love the books written by Judy Christenberry. She usually has a lot of humor and her characters are likeable even when they do not get along with each other. First, I must admit I am highly disappointed in this book. The characters of Hank Ledbetter and Andrea Jacobs are not those likeable characters. When Hank picks up Andrea at the airport he is rude to her. To the point of being hateful and unprofessional. If I paid good money and anyone acted like that to me I would be filing a complaint about it. He snaps at her, does not tell her his name, THEN he actually orders her food when they stopped to eat at a restaurant after having picked her up at the airport. He openly criticizes her to his sister and brother in law when they arrive at the ranch. What did she do wrong? She fell asleep on the drive to the ranch. During the book all he does is insult her privately and publicly. One time he throws a fit because she stopped to say hello to one of the ranch workers. He yelled at her (the customer) in front of the ranch hand. Andrea's character, was not quite as bad as Hank's. I just found her to not be that well developed. The special person she was seeing was her father. Her mother had left her father and Andrea had not seen her father for 22 years. Her mother was not that caring of a mother but Andrea decided to not try and contact her father until that year. Her mother had kept Andrea from him just to be spiteful. Her father happened to be Hank's best friend and a devoted family man. I wish I could say to go out and buy this book but I can't. It is not her best book and I still did not like the character of Hank Ledbetter after finishing the book.
fun Colorado ranch romance November 4, 2008 Harriet Klausner 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
On the family owned Lazy l Ranch in Colorado, Hank Ledbetter is the last remaining single as the spread has had three weddings in under a year. His grandfather and his brother (see TRUST A COWBOY) are on their respective honeymoons and his sister Jess started the marriage go round last summer (see RUNAWAY COWBOY). He vows never him. Although the deal to have guests arrive was to start next month, Hank angrily agrees to teach affluent New York City slicker Andrea Jacobs how to ride a horse after his family signed a contract with the guest. As the teacher and student become acquainted they begin to fall in love. He no longer wants to run off to nearby Steamboat Springs to see the ladies. However, she has a secret and he has doubts, making it seem the only bells for Christmas not ringing will be wedding bells. The latest Lazy L Ranch romance is an engaging contemporary that starts off on the wrong hoof (make that foot) when Hank assumes Andrea is a spoiled rich girl used to getting her way so he behaves atrociously towards the guest. Andrea's lack of confidence leads to her accepting the belief she deserves his scorn and readers cringing. Although Andrea waits too long to show backbone, fans will enjoy this fun Colorado ranch romance as the cowboy has a lot of making up to do one kiss at a time. Harriet Klausner
